Our ranking of the 25 players with the biggest impact so far
The JBBL is the major league for German basketball players in the U16 age group. Two weeks ago, the league commenced play withe the second leg of the campaign, marching towards playoff and relegation seeding. Let’s take a look back at those 25 players who we think had the most impressive performances and impact on their team’s fortunes.

With Dresden’s Paul Keese, we’re introducing our ranking of the 25 most impactful JBBL players with a scrappy producer who has gained heaps of experience on a heavy workload to date. His outstanding efficiency attests that Keese, a seemingly tireless scorer, is hard to stop individually once he’s found his groove. In fact, the forward is one of the most efficient players despite carrying a heavy offensive role for his Titans. Endurance is truly a key word with him at this point as he doesn’t seem to falter despite being a beacon of productivity and throwing himself around, not shy of being thrown to the ground in battles down low.
Keese prefers to operate inside. Given his scrappiness, you won’t be surprised to find that he’s one of the strongest offensive rebounders as well. Individually, it’s tough to ask even more of the Dresden product individually. Having won just one game in the preliminary round, Keese might be a riser in our year-end rankings should his Titans be able to close the relegation round on a high note.

Giessen’s Schneider has shown the ability to shoot from distance with consistency and we’re not merely talking about stationary spot-ups. Furthermore, the guard has the creativity and confidence to split point guard duties for stretches whenever he’s not roaming the perimeter hunting shots. Especially in the JBBL main stage where teams are jousting for playoff positioning, Schneider has been one of the most impressive players emerging with an average of 22,2 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists per game while nailing 59% of his three pointers. With the support of fellow guard Sebastian Brach who tops him in screating for others, Schneider forms one of the most dynamic duos in the league as they are responsible for nearly 48% of the assists and 44% of the steals their team produces.
The Giessen 46ers have had their up and downs during the main stage after losing just one out of six in the preliminare round. Schneider being able to keep up his scorching play of the past few weeks should not only give Giessen great chances of winning more games but also increase his individual chances to rise in our rankings towards the end of the year.

Ben Karbe is another player flashing terrific potential as a shooter. A long and agile forward, Karbe was hitting more than 40% of his three point shots for most of the year before missing ten long range shots one miserable day. Thanks to his stellar shooting the weeks before, this single negative outlier barely affected his percentages. His efficiency out of any position and situation one could think if is only matched by a handful of player. The Mainzer prospect’s combination of touch and tools caught the eye of the german basketball federation as well. Karbe was inivted to participate in the U16 selection camp and eventually got a spot on the preliminary German U16 squad.
As a surprise team, ASC Theresianum Mainz swept the local competition in the preliminary round before having a rough start to the main stage wining just one out of five. Karbe’s still scorring well and put up 37 points recently which is a personal best after cracking the 30 point mark twice before.

An impressive statline is routine for Max Koerner whose double-double streak of eight games was stopped short of two mere points just a week ago. A dominand powerhouse inside, Koerner attempted just one three point shot as opposed to 112 shots inside the perimeter, most of which came close to the basket. The Bonn/Rhoendorf prospect uses his strong body well and is a regular at the free throw line having attempted more than 50 free throws as of now. With supbar accuracy at the charity stripe, Koerner is the more accurate in live game situations converting an impressive 65% of his shots which nets him a top 20 ranking in efficiency. Additionally, he’s grabbed five or more offensive rebounds in six out of eleven games which obviously makes him one of the premier rebounders in th JBBL.
In an up and down season, Bonn/Rhoendorf has a fairly balanced record having won six out of eleven games all season. Koerner could be a riser with increased individual versatility on the offensive end and a Bonn/Rhoendorf win streak in the tough mid-western main group.

Tim Martinez is an all-around contributor whose game is a stat stuffer. The TEAM URSPRING guard has been just one assist shy of a triple-double already twice this season. His per game combination of points, assists, rebounds and steals is topped by just a handful of JBBL players.
What’s most impressive: Despite having good, not extraordinary size for a guard-forward, Martinez was capable of blocking 17 shots in just ten games. What he’s lacking in comparison to many players who will follow in our ranking are impressive scoring numbers. A fine and efficient scorer by all means, Martinez’ per game exploits gets him merely a top 70 ranking. However, he’s playing with fellow guard Jack Schneider who is a strong scorer himself.
The Urspring team lost just one out of six in the preliminary round before slumping during the main stage and winning just one out of the last five. Keep an eye on Martinez, however, as his versatile game might make him a riser should he emerge as a scorer without losing his all-around productivity.
